The history of the company
The industrial production of antibiotics and further pharmaceuticals in Roztoky has its historical origin in 1949 as the first production of Penicillin throughout the former Czechoslovakia. Due to the success of the own research and enhancement of the fermentation capacity in the 1950´s the production program was extended by further pharmaceuticals, particularly Penicillin G and V, Streptomycin, Neomycin, Erythromycin, Chloramphenicol, Bacitracin, Nystatin and tetracyclines.
In 1966, a fusion was implemented of two independent subjects, national enterprise “Penicillin” and “Research Institute of Antibiotics” forming one unit – its name was Research Institute of Antibiotics and Biotransformations. In the 1970´s, in a new hall, a production of Ephedrine as a basic export commodity was started.
At the end of the 1980´s, the company built new fermentation capacities and waste water treatment plant. In the 1990´s production of Nystatin and Ephedrine was successfully inspected by FDA and products entered to US market. Since late 2004, owned the company Chemoprojekt a.s., Prague.
