Thiopental belongs to the group of barbiturate anesthetics and is used as an ultra-short-acting thiobarbiturate for intravenous anesthesia in short procedures or for induction of anesthesia.

Thiopental is indicated:
as the only anesthetic for surgical procedures of short duration (15 min)
as an agent for initiating anesthesia before administering other anesthetic agents
as an adjunct to regional anesthesia
as a means to induce hypnosis during anesthesia achieved by other agents—for analgesia or muscle relaxation
as a means of controlling convulsive states during or after anesthesia induced by inhalation, after local anesthesia, or for other reasons
as a means in neurosurgery for patients with elevated intracranial pressure, provided adequate ventilation is practiced
as a means for narcoanalysis and narcosynthesis in cases of psychiatric disorders.
The use of thiopental is reserved for specialists in anesthesiology.
Composition of the Product
Active ingredient: One injection vial of Thiopental VUAB inj. plv. sol. 0.5 g contains thiopental sodium 500 mg. One injection vial of Thiopental VUAB inj. plv. sol. 1.0 g contains thiopental sodium 1000 mg.
Excipient: Sodium carbonate
